3 Lessons to CRUSH Small Stakes Cash Games
Hey guys, So basically in short, I recently downloaded the WSOP app for my iPhone and I've been playing it a decent amount during the day when I've got a spare minute.
It's fun, article source and easy, great way to pass the time or take a quick break at work.
But my worry now is that I am building bad habits because of it.
In a full ring game I would say on average you see 5-7 players call the big blind and very rarely will someone else re-raise preflop.
I like to specifically focus on my preflop ranges, practice calculating pot odds, calculating draw odds, working on adjustments to tighten up and take down this world full of fish with ease.
I feel like it's good practice to help make adjustments to beating bad players and basically just working on the fundamentals.
As it isn't comparable to a real co poker uk games scenario with real money on the line.
For example I figured maybe instead of spending my time doing this it would be more effective to just be reading about strategy on my phone.
All input is appreciated.
I did for a while.
You are most certainly getting bad habits in terms of what a "Real" poker game will be like.
If you use it explicitly to help you get the hang of what your preflop raising range should be, pot odds, implied odds etc then sure go ahead.
It's going to be super swingy and you will need to practice good BRM.
Just keep in mind that this is not how it is in a real cash game most of the time.
I think if you use it to focus on the areas you described above it shouldn't be an issue.
If you start applying some of your practices that work in play money to real money, then you might start running into problems.
I wouldn't even compare it to the most aggressive microstakes table because even there those guys usually have hands.
I've played WSOP before and saw someone go all in pre-flop with 24o.
There is a couple apps that allow you to simulate betting situations which helps make pre-flop decisions, as well as quiz on calculating pot odds and outs so maybe that is something to look into as well.
I think the site is Pokertrainer.
SE and it links to the app.
There are better ones out there that allow you to choose your ranges and quiz yourself that way in terms of preflop betting so keep that in mind as well.
I started out of these kind of games, but I also had read a lot of poker theory and poker cash game odds practice hand analysis in the mean time.
I still play these quite a bit sometimes as my internet connection sucks and for me it doesn't form bad habits, As long as you're aware that you're playing a different type of player and you're making an adjustment, not a standard play.
I still apply some of what I learned playing those games to some of the worse fish in micros.
I honestly think I picked up some really valuable stuff for playing super-fish in micros.
Also learned how wide you can poker cash game odds practice away with calling pre as the implied odds of even a TPGK card can be huge.
Like real dumb moves I'd never use on thinking players, but can be quite profitable.
What platform are you playing micros on your phone?
Just curious because this is something I would want to do.
Would hold tons more value.
Not sure what the consensus is on Carbon these days but I used to play on mobile when I played on Carbon.
I've been really frustrated a few times though because if you switch to another app for even a second, it boots you from the table.
It's in the browser.
Bovada hack: When the desktop lobby won't load for reasons on their side that they will never admit are on their side you can use the browser to go to the mobile site and play cash games in chrome, firefox, or explorer.
If you know the rules of the game and hand rankings then playing for play money will do nothing but harm your game.
Nothing wrong with it.
You can certainly help yourself get acclimated to hand ranges, board textures, the software, etc.
There is a lot that can be gained from playing hands with purpose no matter the stakes.
Most importantly, don't let potential success at these play money tables fool you into thinking you can achieve the same degree of success at poker cash game odds practice money tables.
That isn't to discourage you from trying to play for real money at some point, but understand that the games play differently and expectations should be tempered.
Just because you ran a 1000 play chip buy-in into 100k in a month, it doesn't mean you can easily replicate it for real dollars.
Look man, I ran 1,000 play chips to a million.
It only function is to know what the buttons do and how the cards come out and what beats what.
It literally has no other value.
I spent like a year on playing that wsop app.
You learn the basic rules and the tournaments are fairly good competition, but I didn't really learn much.
The main thing is people never fold.
Most of the time you see a showdown it's 4 or 5 way which is totally different than real money poker even at micros.
In real money a lot of the game is inducing folds or isolating players which was really a foreign concept in wsop.
That's just my experience though.
I find real money way more fun, way more mentally stimulating, way harder.
My goals in the game are purely recreational it's just a game to play I personally don't think playing play money poker can really "harm" your game as long as you recognize that it's completely different from real poker.
I occasionally play play money poker on my phone when bored as well, but it doesn't affect my real poker game any more than playing Flappy Bird does.
As long as you recognize that you're not actually playing the same game at all, it's fine.
That said, once you know the basics of poker it's really not a good use of time.
I only do it when I have literally nothing else to do and am bored of the other games I have on my phone.
However, if you like to use it to practice calculating odds, etc.
Just recognize that the actual game plays nothing poker cash game odds practice a real money poker game.
Yea ofc poker cash game odds practice, I figured that I develop poker cash game odds practice habits by watching 200nl and playing 25nl and moving up the stakes.
Figuring ranges in everything in poker and ranges in play chips poker are different than in real game.
In general it feels like a different game playing with fake money.
It's not the worst thing in the world if you just want to play some poker and you don't want to put money on the line.
I think it should go without saying you shouldn't try to gleam real strategy from it although free SnGs play closer to the real thing then you'd expect, especially micro SnGs.
If you're thinking about the game and taking in mobile games canada to calculate a winning strategy then this is definitely good for you and you should continue.
As you move to real money and then through the real money limits you will have to adapt your game all the time, so as long as your willing to change your play depending on your opponents bad habits wont form.
It's just another form of poker, all the same adjustments you do in real money apply.
As long as you understand poker cash game odds practice makes a winning play with play money and what makes a winning play in real money games and you can switch back and forth it can't do any harm in fact it can improve your game.
