best arm slot for pitchers He's a physical specimen at 12 and has a fantastic arm.
Problem is his arm slot.
He could really help us on the best online poker sites for u s players if we can get him to buy into changing his arm position.
He has pitched a few innings for us with fairly good results.
Sure, he's walked a few more than our regular guys but I think if we can alter the arm slot he'll be more accurate, throw harder with the same effort, get better movement and most importantly put less stress on his shoulder and elbow.
Once again I need all you guys to help me out!
Memphis 05-17-2006 1:21 PM Member Posts: Joined: Dec 2001 Arm slots are seldom classified as "right" or "wrong.
Each pitcher is going to have a natural arm slot.
Neither of these slots are necessarily right or wrong.
Although sidearmers are more rare, those who have perfected it seem to do quite well.
Throwing sidearm for a pitcher is not necessarily an improper way to deliver the ball.
Changing a pitcher's arm slot is a risky and often futile endeavor.
If you're going to change it, you have to do it casino best all inclusive early in the young ball player's best arm slot for pitchers />Once he has thrown a ball a million times using his natural arm slot -- you'll be able to change it about as easily as you'll be able to get a 30-yr smoker to quit.
It's too much of a habit!
My question is this: Are you talking about something this pitcher is doing that is fundamentally WRONG?
Are his throwing mechanics flawed?
Arm slot is not a flaw.
It is just a term we use to describe one of the many perfectly acceptable ways in which a pitcher can deliver a baseball.
Of course, there certainly are flaws that can exist in a pitcher's "arm action.
It is also one of the most difficult things to fix in a pitcher.
There is an who runs a pitching training facility here in the Memphis area.
My twin boys have been getting lessons from him for a long time.
We've become pretty good friends.
He has stated to me on several occasions that if a player comes to him at 14-yrs-old or later with flawed arm action it is close to IMPOSSIBLE to fix it.
He even tells the parents that.
The bottom line is this: There's more to being a pitcher than simply wanting to be a pitcher and being a big strong athlete.
It's in the arm!
There's either lightning in that arm or not.
Sometimes all it takes is fixing a certain flaw to unleash that lightning.
But, nonetheless, that lightning still has to be there.
Would you ever think of making a slow runner into a competitive sprinter?
It's often a waste of time.
There are often some harsh and blunt realities when it comes to pitching.
I'm not saying this is necessarily the case in your situation with this particular player - but be prepared to experience this at some point.
David Emerling Memphis, TN billc 05-17-2006 1:36 PM Member Posts: Joined: Mar 2004 I guess I'm more concerned about his development.
If he's not able to pitch for us this season we'll be okay.
But he's not fluid.
He looks robot- like.
Looks un-natural and almost painful.
He comes completely over the top.
As far as best arm slot for pitchers goes, he has to move his head to the side to let his arm come through which ruins his dynamic balance and posture.
He comes completely over the top.
Now THAT sounds like a problem.
Last year I took my son to a weekend camp at a major D1 college and had the chance to chat with their pitching coach.
One of the points he emphasized was not throwing from such a high arm-slot that the head gets in the way.
As you say it ruins balance, and also isn't very good for the shoulder.
If you can get him to buy into it he'll have to do a lot of throwing drills knee drill etc.
One of the 'common sense' approaches I've heard from more than one guru is to video tape the pitcher's throwing motion from the side, from the front, and from the back.
Take some time in a bullpen session to tape at best arm slot for pitchers 10 pitches from each camera angle and then do a frame by frame study of the pitcher's mechanics.
Look for basic similarities from pitch to pitch.
Is he using the same mechanics each pitch?
From the catcher's view: 1 Is he leaning to one side when he delivers the pitch?
Without understanding exactly what your pitcher is doing at all the different points of his delivery you really can't make a good judgement on what he is doing right or wrong.
First things first, get a clear understanding of what's going on during his delivery.
There are so many different elements happening at the same time during a pitcher delivery no one can just watch a pitcher and see everything within the context of a pitching motion.
With that thought in mind it makes perfect sense to review his complete pitching motion before you decide to make any changes or adjustments to arm slot.
Maybe his problem is abalance issue, you just don't know unless you have truly disected and observed everything.
Memphis 05-17-2006 5:49 PM Member Posts: Joined: Dec 2001 "Throwing sidearm for a pitcher is not necessarily an improper way to deliver the ball.
It certainly is possible to incorrectly throw the ball sidearm.
You can also have a low elbow when throwing overhand.
These are true arm action flaws that would need to be fixed.
Risky - not in that he will necessarily get hurt.
Risky - in that the pitcher may become LESS effective of a thrower because you are making him do something that does not occur natural to him.
If I saw a pitcher who had been pitching sidearm effectively and correctly!
Once he has thrown a ball a million times using his natural arm slot read article you'll be able to change it about as easily as you'll be able to get a 30-yr smoker to quit.
It's too much of a habit!
Few things are impossible.
But some things are VERY DIFFICULT which calls into question, "Is it worth it?
gambling sites sports uk best there is a mechanical flaw.
Arm slot is mostly a matter of TECHNIQUE.
My twin boys have been getting lessons from him for a long time.
We've become pretty good friends.
He has stated to me on several occasions that if a player comes to him at 14-yrs-old or later with flawed arm action it is close to IMPOSSIBLE to fix it.
He even tells the parents that.
I did it when I was in my 20s because I screwed up my shoulder throwing submarine.
I said "close to IMPOSSIBLE.
If so, you are the exception.
Sure, it can be done.
By the way, I'm wondering how you "screwed up" your shoulder throwing submarine.
That is the least stressful way of throwing a baseball.
Have you ever wondered why fastpitch softball pitchers can throw both games of a doubleheader and then do it again the next day?
My daughter has been playing fastpitch softball on traveling teams since she was 9-yrs-old.
She's now a high school sophomore.
She has pitched as many as 3 games in a single day and she has never had arm problems in her entire career.
If you have ONE pitching ace on your fastpitch softball team - you can literally use her in every one of your games.
Although throwing submarine may not be the best way to achieve velocity.
However in the original post it was stated that the player in question throws from such a high arm angle that he has to move his head out of the way for his arm to come through.
If that's the case then in all likelihood the elbow is WAY above the shoulder.
Try it, you've got to get your elbow pretty high to throw like that.
The arm slot is the angle the forearm and humerus make and it should be created at foot strike.
Then as the pitcher squares to face the catcher that angle should be the same.
Hands on with a ton of repetitions are usually all it takes; that and the pitcher click the following article to have the aptitude and best arm slot for pitchers to make the change.
When I give a pitching lesson there is usually "homework" for him to work on before the next lesson.
I have seen good results this way.
The eyes should remain level to the horizon.
To make a change to his arm slot, change the arm angle don't tilt the shoulders.
That will move the head and you don't want that.
Throwing from a high arm slot may or may not make click pitcher more effective.
He did not throw from a high arm angle according to this picture.

We need to define our terms.
Examine the file I've attached at the bottom of this post.
Imagine you are viewing a right-handed pitcher from the hitter's perspective.
The red circle represents the pitcher's elbow.
There are 6 pitchers illustrated, numbered 1 through 6.
The top row 1, 2, 3show three different slots.
Notice that the upper arm is level.
A coach should have a REASON to change a pitcher's arm slot.
Illustration 4 indicates a legitimate arm action flaw.
The pitcher is "dipping" his elbow.
This is acceptable as long as it creates no problems for the pitcher.
In summary: 1, 2, and 3 are all correct ways of throwing a baseball.
Many outfielders throw this way when trying to make that long throw to put out a runner.
This is why it is not uncommon for an outfielder to literally FALL DOWN after making the throw.
Outfielders have the luxury of falling down after they throw the ball.
Also, outfielders don't have to do that 100 times a game.
Not recommended for pitchers.
